People & Planet: Our Commitment to Ethical Sourcing

We believe in the profound responsibility that comes with sourcing our gemstones. We are committed to not only delivering the finest quality gems but also ensuring that the mines we work with uphold values that protect both the people and the planet. Our partnerships with mining communities reflect a deep respect for artisanal methods and the environment, ensuring that each gem is traced back to a sustainable and ethically sound origin.

Ethical Criteria for Gemstone Mining

Our gemstone selection process begins with a rigorous set of criteria to ensure that every mine we work with operates with integrity and sustainability at its core. We prioritise artisanal mining methods that honour traditional craftsmanship while safeguarding the well-being of miners and their communities.

We choose mines that are dedicated to fair wages and respect for human rights, ensuring that miners receive fair compensation for their work. Many of the mines we work with also focus on empowering women, including single mothers, providing them with the opportunity to transform their lives and the lives of their children. Our first collection was sourced from a women's mine in Zimbabwe, where these women are breaking barriers and creating better futures for their families through dignified, meaningful work. We invite you to take a look at our 'Meet the Miner' section under each product page, to see the incredible workers behind our jewelry.

Environmental Stewardship and Sustainability

Our dedication to the planet is reflected in our careful selection of environmentally responsible mines. We partner with operations that prioritise water conservation and employ methods that minimise pollution and reduce their ecological footprint. One of our featured mines has created a circular system by utilising old mining pits as a fruit and vegetable garden, helping to regenerate the land and sustain local communities. This innovative approach showcases the potential for mining to coexist with nature in a way that fosters renewal and growth.

Furthermore, these mines commit to no use of toxic chemicals in the extraction process, ensuring that the surrounding environment remains free from harmful pollutants. This not only safeguards the land but also protects the health of workers and nearby residents.

Carbon Emissions

We are committed to reducing our environmental footprint by implementing a comprehensive emissions reduction plan that addresses Scopes 1, 2, and 3 emissions. We have calculated our total GHG emissions for 2024 and they amount to 28 tonnes. Going forward we will refine the tracking of our scopes, identify areas for improvement and set actionable goals to lower our carbon footprint, culminating in a full impact report by 2026. This aligns with our broader commitment to ethical and sustainable practices, ensuring that every piece of jewelry we create is as kind to the planet as it is beautiful.
