Athari's Journey
Athari, meaning "impact" in Tanzania's native language Swahili, embodies the very essence of fine jewelry - an ode to exceptional gemstones and the marvels of nature. With a passion for ethical sourcing and traceability, each piece is a testament to the collaboration between human craftsmanship and nature's raw brilliance.
Today, traceability in gemstones is more important than ever. Consumers are seeking transparency about where their materials come from and how they are extracted. Traditionally, gemstones pass through multiple hands - from dealers to middlemen - crossing borders and impacting many lives along the way. We simplify this journey by ensuring every gemstone is ethically sourced, directly from the mine, bringing clarity and integrity to each step of its path from earth to jewel.

Our Ethos
Our goal was to create a collection that could be fully traced from mine to finished piece, guaranteeing the ethical provenance of both the gemstones and gold by personally sourcing everything right at the origin. By collaborating with a collective of local mining communities and hand selecting the best quality at the source, we guarantee full visibility at every step and ensure miners are rightfully compensated for their findings. Our first collection used Aquamarines, from the world’s first sustainable women's-mine in Zimbabwe. All Athari stones are guaranteed conflict-free and untreated. Through our personal relationships we are able to audit the mines both above and below ground, with full disclosure and insight into their working conditions, mining practices and potential political conflicts.

Fully Traceable Materials
Our standard: Every carat of gemstone and every ounce of our gold used is fully traceable to its original source. We exclusively use SMO Gold, and it can be traced back to one specific mine in West Africa, that is accredited with the highest responsibility standards. Located in the Ivory Coast, the mine provides vital social, environmental, and cultural support to local communities. Our mission is to improve responsible sourcing in the jewelry sector by educating customers on the origin behind their beloved pieces and fostering a profound understanding and appreciation for the rarity of gemstones and precious metals.
We invite you to meet our miners and makers, understand the story behind each gem, and forging a direct relationship with the jewelry you love.
